It was Wednesday the 18th of May 2011 and my first networking evening within the wedding industry. I was very excited and yet very nervous to be walking into a room filled of people who would all know each other and all know so much about weddings.
I walked into the lovely Goldbrick House with my new business cards in hand. I pinned my card to a board and was pleasantly greeted by the lovely host of the event Kirsten Butler from The Little Wedding Helper who instantly made me feel very welcome, like a long lost friend who she had not seen for a few years. I instantly felt so much better and a lot more at ease. She introduced me to Kate from Kate's Kitchen and we got talking about our experiences in starting up a new business, Kate too was so friendly. After Kate left, I could see this was my time to either (a) Mingle or (b) stand in the room holding on to my glass of champagne looking like billy no mates as most people in there appeared to know each other very well.
I seen a group of ladies who seemed to be having a giggle so I took my chance and said "hello my name is Amanda!" I was fearful of them saying just "hello" back but this was where I started getting acquainted with a some lovely people in the industry. In that little group stood the very funny Abi and Lisa from Marry Me In Somerset, a gorgeous lady called Gail from The Mews Clifton, a beautiful lady called Kelly from The Barn.
I later had the opportunity to meet Lizzy and her cute baby girl from Lizzy May Photography, Rachel from Wedding Blog Designer, Marie from Marie Man Photography, Madlen from Aspirational Weddings, Lizzie from Chocolate Delores, Martin from Martin Pemberton Photography.
At 9.30 pm my time was up and I had to leave that wedding filled room wishing I had chance to get to know some more friendly people. My time there was valuable to me and I shall always appreciate Kirsten Butler for arranging this brilliant event for without I would not have made some fantastic twitter friends.
